Find the best accommodation for your next trail walk

The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment manages some of the most incredible walking tracks in New South Wales (NSW). Whether you’re looking for a family bushwalk or a physically challenging week-long trek, there are stunning tracks throughout the state.

While there is other private accommodation on the way, we’ve pulled together a list of the Crown land sites where you can stay along your preferred trail. If following the famous footsteps of early explorers tickles your fancy, or you want to experience NSW's vast beauty and heritage, we can help you.

The Hume and Hovell Track

The Hume and Hovell Track is 426 kilometres of pure, rugged Australian countryside. It follows a similar route set out by famous explorers Hamilton Hume and William Hovell all those years ago. Experience a stunning mix of public roads, purpose-built track, fire trails and some of the most breathtaking footbridges in the state. The track stretches from Yass all the way to Albury and is full of campsites, secluded picnic locations and beautiful rivers.

The Bicentennial National Trail

This is one of Australia’s best long-distance trekking experiences. The Bicentennial National Trail spans Queensland, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and Victoria. It is an extraordinary 5,330 kilometres.

This track was developed over years of careful design and negotiation in a bid to create a long-distance experience similar to the American Appalachian Trail. The track mirrors a combination of horse, mail and other trails set out since colonisation and eventually developed to celebrate the bicentenary of European settlement in Australia. The rich history and environment are all set out in the multiple guidebooks available to help trekkers make their way. In NSW, there are many campsites, caravan parks and other accommodation along the way.
